India’s Toonz Media Group has partnered with Leadbelly Productions to co-produce a new 2D-animated series called Creepy Candy ™.
Produced by Leadbelly president Alan Jude Summa, the series will be distributed to TV and OTT partners by Toonz Entertainment, the distribution arm of the Singapore-based Toonz Group.
Targeting children four to 11, the series features a bag of candy that mysteriously comes to life in a library on Halloween night. The candies, along with a library-dwelling spirit named Ty Poe, begin a spooky and comical adventure in which the candies try to avoid being devoured by Miss PageTurner, the evil librarian.
The first season will include 26 six-minute episodes and will be released in October of this year. A special 30-minute Halloween episode is also scheduled to premiere in October 2023.
In a release, P. Jayakumar, CEO of the Toonz Media Group, said the idea is to develop the animated show into a 360-degree brand that includes short films and consumer products. Nevada-based agency NXT GEN Brand Marketing will be responsible for the CP plan to support the IP.
Recently, Toonz Media Group also partnered with Peruvian studio Tunche Films to co-produce the CG-animated feature Kayara.
In addition to that partnership, the company has teamed up with the non-fungible token (NFT) platform GuardianLink to set up and run Toonz NFTLabs, which will turn its proprietary and third-party brands into collectible digital tokens.
